So much has been happening in the art studio. Last week we said goodbye to the fox and the owl, see amazing examples of observational drawing here.
This week we were lucky enough to have two visitors in the studio, an art teacher from Franklin Park who thinks our art studio is so great that she would like to set up a studio for her students! (She's right, we are great!)
I also had a quick visit with Mrs. Catalano, a Mitchell parent and knitting master, so she could introduce me (and ultimately the children) to knitting. What an adventure!
I'm really going to have to practice a lot to get this knitting thing down but the new knitting center generated a lot of interest as soon as I set it out! As luck would have it, Ms. Hergott, the visiting art teacher, knew some knitting tricks, like finger knitting, and shared them with us. One of our fourth grade students did an excellent job of taking a video of the process and you can find it here.

Richard Hunt
The featured artist for quarter 3 in the Mitchell Art Studio is local sculptor Richard Hunt.
His work is being exhibited in two cultural institutions in Chicago this winter, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Chicago Cultural Center.
Many of the classes are going on a field trip to the MCA and the Cultural Center is a great place to take your family on weekends! It is right across the street from the Cloudgate sculpture (the Bean) in Millennium park and it is always free. If you've never been to the Cultural Center, it has several breathtaking mosaics on the ceilings and is worth a visit.
